27 puzzle fans, plus friends and family - a total of 48 participants - Cercedilla, Madrid region, Spain.
Assembled between October 9th (21:53) and October 12th (00:30).
We are Alfonso, Xavi and Asun and we belong to an Internet forum called “puzzlesypiezas.com”. It is a puzzle forum in Spanish, where puzzle-loving people meet in order to share our hobby. We have prepared this report on behalf all our colleagues that participated in this event.
At the beginning of 2008 we had a dream that today (almost 9 months later) became true: TO COMPLETE THE PUZZLE “LIFE” IN JUST ONE WEEK-END.

From the beginning we realised to make this challenge possible we needed to join together a great number of puzzlers. Without their help this could not have been possible. For this purpose we organized different meetings all around Spain (Valladolid, Madrid and Granada) where we puzzled progressively bigger puzzles, with different image contents. These meetings
progressively had more participants.
Finally, on October 9th, 2008, in a lovely place called
Cercedilla, in the northern mountains of the Madrid region we could
meet people and friends enough to make our dream come true.
The puzzle box was opened at 21:53 of 9th October and the four parts mounted were joined together at 00:30 of 12th October. The total running time was 50 hours and 48 minutes, however there were some moments where nobody was puzzling, i.e. meals and some hours at night, we needed to go to sleep!!!! A total of 4 hours and 34 minutes was the time that nobody was puzzling.
We have estimated a total of 48 participants during this time, 27
of them were official forum members. Only 8 official members
were present all the time, others had different levels of
participation.

The strategy was the following:
The four bags were
assigned to four groups of people. Some of them were expert
puzzlers and some of them were occasional participants, including
relatives, friends and visitors.
We worked all together in one room, sometimes a few people and other times lots of people.
As additional material to help puzzling we prepared an interesting infrastructure: 120 square panels (to classify the pieces on), several copies of the puzzle poster to be used by all groups, drinks, and meals.
All participants could wear a shirt with the official meeting logo (see photo earlier in report) and personalized identification. We also prepared two computers, the first with a web-cam to take a picture every minute (to record everything in the room), and the second with a personalized timer for each official participant, to register individual puzzling time. We
also took additional pictures and video. With the all records we
took during the days we were puzzling we will try to register
this as an official record with Guinness World Records.
Each group of participants used their own technique for puzzling. The common fact is that all classified pieces either by their colour or by
their shape. Afterwards everyone did as much puzzle as possible
some using the image of the puzzle as a guide but other didn't
need any help, only piece association after recognition of similar
patterns or colours.
It was very interesting to share different ways of constructing a puzzle between participants.
We were visited twice by regional TV channels, to inform everybody of our challenge, (See videos below - spoken in Spanish)
We wish to acknowledge Educa for their kind donation of the puzzle, that is now resting again in its original box; but in fragments of
400-500 pieces, waiting for a great wall to put it on.

Somos Alfonso, Xavi y Asun y formamos parte del foro de Internet puzzlesypiezas.com foro de puzzles en castellano donde todos los amigos de los puzzles nos damos cita para compartir nuestra afición. Hemos preparado este texto en nombre de todos nuestros colegas que han participado en este acontecimiento.
A principios del año 2008 se nos ocurrió un sueño que hoy, casi 9 meses después, se ha convertido en realidad: MONTAR EL PUZZLE VIDA EN TAN SÓLO UN FIN DE SEMANA.
Para conseguir este reto, desde el principio estábamos
convencidos que necesitábamos reunir muchos puzzleros. Sin su
ayuda el reto hubiera sido imposible. Por ello organizamos
diferentes Encuentros en distintos lugares de España:
Valladolid, Madrid y Granada en los que montamos puzzles cada vez
mayores y de diferentes temáticas.
Finalmente el día 9 de Octubre de 2008 en el bonito paraje de
Cercedilla, en la Sierra Norte de Madrid, conseguimos reunirnos
las suficientes personas y amigos para cumplir nuestro sueño.
El puzzle se abrió a las 21:53 del 9 de Octubre y se unieron las 4 partes en la madrugada del domingo 12 de octubre, a las 00:30. En total se tardaron 50 horas y 48 minutos, aunque en algunos momentos no había nadie puzzleando: durante las comidas y algunas horas por la noche, también
teníamos sueño!!! En total fueron 4 horas y 34 minutos el tiempo durante el que nadie estaba puzzleando.
Calculamos que en total hubo 48 participantes, de los que 27 eran miembros
oficiales del resto. Sólo 8 miembros oficiales estuvieron
presentes todo el tiempo, el resto tuvo nivel de participación
variable. En la foto de abajo, se muestran los miembros que participaron en cada sección del puzzle. Aparecen los "alias" que usamos en el foro.

La estrategia que fue la siguiente. Se formaron 4
grupos de participantes con las cuatro bolsas. Algunos eran
expertos puzzleros y otros eran participantes ocasionales,
incluyendo familiares, amigos y visitantes. Estuvimos todos
juntos en una sala, en alguno momentos éramos unos pocos y en
otros éramos muchos.
Para facilitar los trabajos se montó una infraestructura interesante: 120 tablillas para colocar las piezas, varias copias de la imagen del puzzle
para que los grupos los usaran, bebidas y comidas. Todos los
participantes tenían una camiseta con el logotipo del encuentro
e identificación personalizada.
Se prepararon dos ordenadores, uno con una web-cam para tomar una
imagen por minuto (para registrar todo lo que ocurría en la sala
de montaje); y otro con un cronómetro para cada participante,
para registrar el tiempo de participación. A parte, se tomaron
numerosas fotografías y grabaciones en vídeo. Con todo este
material intentaremos registrarlo como un récord oficial.
Cada grupo definió su estrategia en función de las personas que se encontraban en él. Todos los grupos clasificaron las piezas: por colores o por formas. Posteriormente, cada uno hizo tanto como pudo, usando las
imágenes del puzzle como guía o bien si ninguna clase de ayuda:
usando su habilidad de reconocimiento de las piezas similares
para unirlas. Fue muy interesante compartir entre los puzzleros
distintas formas de construir un puzzle. Tuvimos dos
visitas de canales de televisión regionales, para informar a la
